The 23nd Annual St. Maryโs Hospital Foundation Gala held Nov. 19 at the Hollywood Social Hall, brought in more than $123,000 to go toward the Foundationโs scholarship program, as well as hospital capital projects and equipment.ย Unmask the Night in the Big Easy was the theme for the New Orleans inspired event.
โThe continued success of the Gala is the direct result of the overwhelming support provided by the community.ย We are so thankful for the widely varied contributions made by local businesses, individuals and the hospital community, without which the Gala would not be the premier social event it has become,โ said Jacquelyn V. Meiser, co-chairperson for the 2010 Gala with Micheline Lopez-Estrada.
Guests followed the red carpet into one of the most engaging black tie events sponsored by the Foundation.ย As individuals entered the social hall, they stepped into the mysterious and romantic environment of New Orleans.ย Decorations depicted the trademark wrought-iron balconies and private courtyards of the city that are filled with fountains and lush greenery.ย Silhouettes of musicians playing renowned New Orleans jazz also filled the entryway, while larger than life masks with lacey scrollwork and feathers accented the wall.
Several of Southern Marylandโs most prominent businesses, medical professionals and local organizations sponsored the eveningโs festivities, which featured delicious cuisine from renowned caterer, Ken Upton, and music from the Highway Star band.ย The Premiere sponsor of the event was Wyle.ย Diamond sponsors were AMEWAS, Inc.; Associates in Radiation Medicine; IAP World Services; iLuMinA Solutions Inc; ManTech Systems Engineering Corporation; MedStar Health; MEP, your partner in emergency care; and W.M. Davis, Inc.ย ย ย ย
Attendees purchased authentic traditional New Orleans pralines wrapped in a silver lamรฉ bag.ย The purchase put them in the running for a chance to win an exquisite 14 kt white gold bracelet shimmering with pave diamonds totaling 3 carats and appraised at more than $4,000.ย Gala attendees Carol and Bill Moody won the necklace that was generously donated by Blairโs Jewelry and Gifts.
Proceeds from the Gala will go toward the hospitalโs nursing and allied health scholarship program, as well as hospital capital projects and equipment.ย The scholarship program helps to train and recruit qualified healthcare workers for future community needs.ย
