A fire broke out this morning on a reported 120-foot barge on the Patuxent River just south of the Gov. Thomas Johnson Bridge.
Volunteer fire boats from St. Maryโs and Calvert Counties were dispatched at 9:43 a.m., but the captain of the vessel managed to knock the below-deck blaze before firefighters arrived.
Volunteer firefighters made contact with the captain of the smoky vessel, who requested additional extinguishers and the use of a respirator, to go below and take a closer look.
