Oaks Road in St. Mary’s County Thursday, Feb. 9

Charlotte Hall, MD – Just one day after the region enjoyed relatively balmy, spring-like conditions, snow squalls blew through Southern Maryland, leaving residents, especially commuters with a blustery reminder it is still winter. The squalls were reported in several locations, including Charlotte Hall, Waldorf, Hollywood, Prince Frederick and Leonardtown. Some areas reported a dusting of snow.

The cold temperatures will hang around Friday and by the weekend highs are predicted in the upper 50s.

Special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service effective until 11:45 p.m. EST, Thursday…black ice possible on roadways and sidewalks this evening… where snow showers fell this afternoon, roadways and walkways are wet. As the sun sets and temperatures continue to fall, untreated surfaces are likely to freeze and become icy. This will lead to dangerous travel conditions this evening. Be aware that what looks like wet pavement may actually be icy. Drive slowly, allow extra travel time, and brake gently. Pedestrians should exercise extreme caution while walking.
