The men and women of the Maryland State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Friday evening (April 14) on MD Rt. 261, Chesapeake Beach.ย
The sobriety checkpoint lasted 1 hour and 18 minutes.ย During the checkpoint a total of 150 motorists were contacted as they entered the sobriety checkpoint.ย Of these, six were directed to the roadside for further testing and two were found to be driving while impaired and arrested.ย ย
Several other arrests were made (see below) incident to this initiative:

–ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Laurie Ann Amster (47) of Owings (DUI and Possession of Cocaine)
–ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Justin Michael Butler (18) of Owings (Possession of Cocaine)
–ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Scott Charles Jenkins (20) of Lothian (Possession of Cocaine)
–ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Micheal Allen Eberly (35) of North Beach (Drunken Disorderly)
The personnel within the Maryland State Police, Barrack โUโ, and the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office continue to do everything they can to make Calvert Countyโs roadways as safe as possible.ย ย ย
To reduce alcohol and drug related crashes on Calvertโs roadways and in support of the โCheckpoint Strikeforceโ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration initiative, the Maryland State Police and the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office will continue to conduct sobriety checkpoints โanytime, anywhereโ.ย Our numerous highway safety partners (Maryland Highwayโs Safety Office/State Highway Administration, Calvert County Traffic Safety Council, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Stateโs Attorneyโs Office, etc) encourage the use of sobriety checkpoints as well as saturation patrols to reduce alcohol related crashes and to locate and apprehend impaired or drugged drivers.ย ย ย
