At Historic Sotterleyโs Riverside Wine Fest good wine is a good familiar creature.ย Not the beast with two backs, yet many would agree, good wine is often prerequisite, just as Wine Fest itself is prerequisite to the end of the summer. The hot months are over, just as the burning anticipation of autumn leaves, and the leaves begin to change, along with the weather. The chilly atmosphere caused many of Wine Fest attendees to dress in coats and sweaters. A middle aged man, dressed in a sleek and dark trench coat would remark that โit was the wine that kept me warmโ.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Whether the wine helped visitors weather the weather, is open for debate, however It certainly brought out the best in Southern Maryland. Many of the wineries are locally owned and operated, and contribute directly to the economy of Southern Maryland. Some wines even use local produce to produce their stock.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Along with thick coats, buying local is in fashion in Southern Maryland. Chefs prepared meals designed to be consumed with a specific bottle of wine for guests who would then be able to try to sample the dish. One chef, seen below, filleted a rock fish that โwas swimming in the Chesapeake just yesterdayโ.ย

The clouds were an ominous reminder of how bad weather can interfere. Signs posted all over Sotterley reminded visitors of the damage the plantation received due to the violent winds of our recent hurricane. Other awesome visual reminders, such as fallen trees gave off a more distinct impression, for more information on the damages please check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymkMzDHtOmE&feature=youtu.be
