On October 17, 2010 James William Piel, 52 of St. Peter’s, Missouri was operating a motor vehicle on Route 5 in Leonardtown, in excess of the posted 40 mile per hour zone. Cpl. Somerville stopped Piel’s vehicle for speeding. As Cpl. Somerville began speaking with Piel he could smell a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage upon Piel’s breath and person. Piel was given a standardized field sobriety test and as a result of that test he was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Search incident to Piel’s arrest revealed he was also in possession of suspected marijuana.
Piel was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, marijuana.
