For the past 18 years, Spiggy & Friends have worked tirelessly on behalf of sick children across the region, raising more the $500,000 in the process. This coming weekend, that effort continues with the 17th Annual Spiggy & Friends Childrenโ€™s Charity Event. On Friday, Spiggy & Friends host a celebrity golf tournament at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course in Lusby.

The golfing event is sold out, but Spiggy says, hole sponsorships are always welcome. โ€œThe more the merrier,โ€ said Spiggy. โ€œWe will take hole sponsors all the way up to the day of the event.โ€

After the fun tournament, the Charity effort moves to the American Legion in Lusby for a Sunday celebration, football game, silent auction and more. Each year, the Redskin Football game Benefit Party hosts more than 350 fans and supporters. This year the game kicks off as the Redskins travel to Chicago to take on the Bears.

โ€œWe have a large flat screen Panasonic TV, a Beer Keg Cooler with tap on top, and a 32 bottle wine cooler for our big raffle items this year,โ€ said Spiggy. โ€œWe appreciate everything our supporters help us do each year to provide for the children.โ€

Spiggy knows that this year is tough for people to be able to contribute. โ€œWe have a big challenge. I know people do not have the financial ability to give as much as before. Unfortunately, our kids are still getting sick and many require expensive medical attention that is not always covered by health plans,โ€ said Spiggy.

What started as a basement party for 30 of Spiggy’s co-workers at the nearby Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center, has now blossomed into a three-day weekend consisting of the largest golf tournament held in Southern Maryland and a Sunday Redskins’ Game Party with participants sporting the jerseys for most every NFL football team.

This years’ event will attract several former sports personalities and a number of Redskin cheerleaders all for a great cause. The cost of the Sunday event is only $25 and anyone is free to call Spiggy at (410) 326-2524 with any questions, in order to donate to the cause or to purchase tickets for the event.
