On Sept. 27, the St, Maryโ€™s College of Maryland center for the study of democracy hosted the first of two candidatesโ€™ debates for local offices appearing on the November ballot.

On the bill that evening was debates between the candidates for Sheriff, candidates for Maryland House of Delegates district 29A and district 29C.

In the video posted here, Tim Cameron (R), current director or public safety for St. Mary’s County, won the coin toss and starts off the debate with his introduction, followed by Sheriff Dave Zylak (D).

Two more videos will be added later this morning featuring responses from Zylak and Cameron on the questions raised by the debate panel.

On Tuesday, The Bay Net will spotlight videos from the debate between district 29A Delegate Johnny Wood (D) and his opponent Joe DiMarco (R).

On Wednesday, the debate between district 29C Delegate Tony Oโ€™Donnell (R) and his opponent Norma Powers (D) will be featured.

St. Maryโ€™s College is hosting a second round of debates at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the campusโ€™ Cole Cinema.

Scheduled to appear Tuesday is Maryland Senator Roy Dyson and his opponent Tommy McKay; Delegate John Bohanan and his opponent Tim Wood; and the candidates for the contested St. Maryโ€™s County Commissioners seats. Those debates include Jackie Russell and Joseph Bush; Kenny Dement and Elfreda Mathis; Tom Mattingly and Ken Carkhuff; and, Larry Jarboe and Joe St. Clair.
