sobriety check point

The following notice has been issued by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office –ย

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Friday, Dec. 16

The St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office with the assistance of other agencies, will be conducting a roadside sobriety checkpoint during the evening of Friday, December 16, on MD Route 235, within St. Maryโ€™s County.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills three people every two hours, according to the United States Department of Transportation.

The checkpoint is one of the several initiatives under the umbrella of โ€œMaximum Deployment,โ€ which will commence on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot with a public roll call.

โ€œMaximum Deploymentโ€ is a policing strategy used during the holiday season to target areas of increased crime, subsequently increasing protection in St. Maryโ€™s County.

The St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office uses roadside sobriety checkpoints as one of the tools in the battle against impaired driving. On behalf of Sheriff Cameron and the men and women of the Sheriffโ€™s Office, we ask that everyone drive safely during the Christmas and New Year holiday seasons.
