Tpr. R. Garrett responded to southbound Crain Highway in the area of Acton Lane, Waldorf, Charles County, Maryland to assist Captain N. Dofflemyer, Maryland State Police on a traffic stop. Captain Dofflemyer advised that he was behind an older style white Pontiac Fiero, bearing MD registration, in his unmarked State Police vehicle.
After running the registration on the Pontiac through Capwin, a statewide automated system, from his computer to check the expiration/validity of a peeling sticker, Captain Dofflemyer advised that the tag was returning listed to a Dodge instead of a Pontiac. Captain Dofflemyer also received a hit that the aforementioned tag displayed on the Pontiac had been reported stolen through Prince George’s County. The tag, which was displayed on a white 1986 Pontiac Fiero, returned to a 2002 Dodge.
Captain Dofflemyer awaited the response of additional units to respond to the area prior to initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle. He also advised dispatch to confirm if the tag was stolen. The vehicle stop was initiated at approximately 1914 hours by Captain Dofflemyer. Upon contact with the driver, Troy Maurice Law, 36 years, of Clinton, MD, was identified by his Maryland Identification Card. A subsequent check through MVA revealed that Law is revoked and suspended through the State of Maryland.
Law was placed under arrest for possession of two reported stolen tags, which had been confirmed and reported stolen through Prince George’s County Police. Law was criminally charged with theft less than $100 for the Possession of two stolen/recovered Maryland registration tags. In addition he was charged with related traffic offenses to include the following:
Driving on Revoked License and Privilege; Driving on Suspended license and Privilege; Operating Unregistered Motor Vehicle; Fail to Display Registration Card on Demand; Driving Without Current Tags; Displaying Registration Plate Issued to Another; Unauthorized Display and Use of Registration Plate; Driving Uninsured Vehicle; and Failure to Notify Adm. Of Address Change. Law was transported to the Charles County Detention Center pending bond review.
