Mechanicsville, MD – A 2011 Ford Fusion believed to have been stolen from Charles County was found ablaze in St. Mary’s County Thursday evening, June 29, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the vehicle was discovered by a resident on Medley Lane in Mechanicsville around 6:45 p.m.
“The vehicle was reported stolen from La Plata around 3 p.m.,” a deputy fire marshal reported. “The vehicle is a total loss as a result of the fire.”
No injuries were reported. Five volunteer firefighters were dispatched and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes. The deputy fire marshal’s investigation determined the blaze originated in the vehicle’s passenger compartment. The perpetrator is believed to have ignited available combustibles inside the passenger compartment. The estimated loss is $10,000. The vehicle’s owner was identified by the deputy fire marshal as Philip Fenwick.
