Waldorf, MD – Coming out of last week, Stone should have been devastated. They lost to county rival Westlake 19-14, and let the game slip through their fingers. For senior Hassan Marshall, the game literally slipped through his fingers as he fumbled the ball away to Westlake to give them the opportunity to score the game winning touchdown. In this weekโ€™s game, as Calvert came in riding high after a thrashing of La Plata last week, Marshall made his presence felt early.

On the gameโ€™s first play from scrimmage, he scooped up a fumble by Calvert back Jeremiah Long, and scored for a 45 yard touchdown fumble return. On the next Calvert possession, he sacked quarterback Jack Lanham for a 10 yard loss, and tackled Levi Brickner for a 3 yard loss to force them to a three and out. By the time Stoneโ€™s offense even touched the ball, they had a 7 point lead, and a head full of confidence. On Stoneโ€™s first offensive possession, they ran 8 plays, had 5 first downs, and a touchdown on the board. Jon Harris sneaked the ball in from a yard out to make the score 14-0 Stone with 6:16 left in the first quarter.

After this, both teams exchanged punts, and Stone turned the ball over on downs, which led to Calvert putting a small drive together, gashing Stoneโ€™s defense with consecutiveย  medium distance runs, only to reach into their bag of tricks, and attempt a halfback pass. It fell incomplete. Two incomplete passes later, it was 4th and 10 at the Stone 30 yard line. Lanhamโ€™s pass was tipped by his intended receiver, and fell into the hands of Taejon Gray. Gray returned to the Stone 24 yard line. On the final play of the half, Stone handed off to Daniel Lewis, who made a juke and was trying to bust the ball out to the outside, when the ball was punched out from behind, and into the hands of Cam Carr. Carr took off down the field, but was run out of bounds at the 15 yard line by Brandon Ebron. It was 14-0 at the half with Stone on top.

Stone came out of the half, and chewed clock. They had a 13 play drive that took up over half of the 3rd quarter, capping off with Harrisโ€™ second 1 yard score of the game. The extra point was good, and with 5:43 left in the 3rd quarter, it was 21-0 Stone. Both teams exchanged punts after this, and Calvert looked to drive down the field after taking over at the Stone 41 yard line. They managed 2 plays before Lanhamโ€™s pass was again tipped into the air, and into the arms of a Stone defender. This time, it was Delonta Nunnally who picked off Lanhamโ€™s pass. Stone took advantage of this, and drove down inside the Calvert 10 yard line, before Daniel Lewis punched it in from 4 yards away to put Stone up by a score of 28-0, with 10:29 left in the game.

Any hope of a Calvert comeback was killed when Lanhamโ€™s third straight pass was picked off by Randy Brent. Despite their defense forced a punt, there wasnโ€™t enough time left to mount any sort of comeback. They did put one score on the board with 2:00 left when Lanham snuck it across from a yard out. Their drive was aided by a hook and ladder in which Lanham threw the ball to Ryan Farrell, who then threw a lateral to Cody Mason who snaked underneath of him and picked up 20 yards. However, Calvert couldnโ€™t collect the onside kick, and Stone went into victory formation. Stone came away as a victor 28-7.

Calvert falls to 6-2, and will play Westlake next week. They were led in stats by Levi Buckner, who had 53 yards rushing. Lanham was 1-5 for 20 yards, and 3 interceptions passing, and had 7 yards on 8 carries with a touchdown rushing. Stone improves to 6-2, and will play at Patuxent next week. They were led in stats by Daniel Lewis, who had 21 carries for 110 yards and 1 score. Quarterback Jon Harris had 5 yards on 4 carries, but 2 scores.
