
As Friday moves closer, we see two local high school football teams preparing for their biggest fights of the season. The Patuxent Panthers and Thomas Stone Cougars are both playing for a region title this week.ย
Patuxent Panthers (8-3) at Douglass Eagles (11-0)
The region final for the 2A South is a rematch of the 2012 region semifinals. Douglass won that game 29-27, and is looking to repeat itself. One of these two teams have won the region title in each of the last three seasons. Patuxent is looking to repeat as region champs, while Douglass wants to make it three titles in four years.
The game features the best defense in the state. Douglass has given up only 36 points on the season, an extraordinary three points per game. On the other side of the ball, Patuxent comes in averaging 34 points per game.ย Douglassโ offense is led by senior running back Akiva Wedge, with 662 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on the season. Patuxentโs offense is led by senior quarterback Tyler Crounse, who has thrown for 1045 yards, rushed for 1263 yards, and scored 25 total touchdowns on the season.

Potomac Wolverines (10-1) at Thomas Stone Cougars (10-1)
The 3A South region title will be decided between a pair of 10-win teams. Stone is led into the game with a pair of thousand yard rushers. Seniors Juwuan Briscoe, and Trey Lee have rushed for a combined 2229 yards. They lead the Cougars against Potomac, led by sophomore linebacker/ fullback Taโyon Fleet-Davis. Davis has run for 306 yards, and seven touchdowns on the season. On the defensive side, he has 85 tackles. Stone is coming off of a 33-0 victory, and Potomac is coming off of a 47-0 victory. This game should be an excellent showcase of talent.
