Waldorf, MD – As the game between these two county rivals approached, the atmosphere around the stadium at Thomas Stone High School seemed to weigh everything down. Everything, and everyone could sense the magnitude of the game, and how bad both teams needed a victory. That atmosphere was true in the first quarter, as no one scored in the quarter. Neither team had any big plays, which they both rely on. That feel was broken when Stone running back Daniel Lewis took the quick handoff, hit the hole, and took off. He was run down 64 yards later, and set up his teammate Hassan Marshall for a score.

Lackey kept the ball for 3 minutes, and drove down deep into Stone territory, but coughed up the football and Stone gathered possession of the ball at their own 17.ย  Stone then used their option attack to its full potential, gashing the Chargers defensive line, and eventually scoring on a 2 yard keeper by Jon Lewis. The extra point was made, and the Cougars led 14-0 going into the half.

Stone took the ball coming out of the half and used their option attack at the same rate as in the first half. This time, they scored on a 20 yard keeper by Jon Lewis, his second of the game. Their lead was pushed up to 21-0 with 10:06 left in the third. Lackeyโ€™s offense finally overcame itโ€™s turnover woes and pushed one across the goal line with 7:22 left in the third. Robert Middleton was the one who ran the ball in, and cut the lead to 21-6.

Both teams punted the ball away to each other twice to end out the quarter. Finally, Stone muscled their way to a 12 yard touchdown run by Daniel Lewis. The 2 point conversion failed, and Stone lead 27-6 with 10:12 left in the game. Lackey got the ball back, and threw a pick to Stone. Stone then punted the ball back to the Chargers, who drove down to the 12, but had their drive stall on downs. To ice the game, Demitri Morsell took a handoff 85 yards to the end zone. The extra point was no good, but had no effect. Stone led 33-6 with 1:19 left in the game. Lackey attempted to salvage one last score, but failed to get the ball in the end zone before time expired.

Stone walks out of the game with a 3-1 record and a date with winless La Plata next weekend, while Lackey drops to 2-2, and moves on to play unbeaten Patuxent.
