
Structure Fire in California

California, MD – A fire sparked by an electrical cord heavily damaged a St. Maryโs County home, displaced the occupants and resulted in injuries to one firefighter, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze occurred Friday, Jan. 6 around 3:30 p.m. at a two-story house on Summersweet Way in California.
โThis fire was determined to be accidental from a power cord under the desk in the home office,โ a deputy state fire marshalโs report stated. The fire was discovered and reported by the homeowner.
Forty-five firefighters responded to the one-alarm blaze and brought it under control in 40 minutes. One firefighter sustained lacerations from falling glass while setting up a ladder. The firefighter was transported to MedStar St. Maryโs Hospital where he was treated and released, the fire marshalโs office reported.
Damage to the home is estimated at $325,000. The occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Update – at approximately 3:46 p.m. it was reported that the Fire Department has arrived on the scene to find smoking showing from the rear side of a residence.
At approximatelyย 3:35 p.m. a structure fire was reported at on Summersweet Way located in theย Wildwoodย subdivision in California.
