ย Lexington Park, MD – A fire sparked by a faulty power cord has displaced the occupants of a St. Maryโ€™s County home Monday, Jan. 16, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the fire at Midway Drive in Lexington Park was discovered by one of the occupants shortly after 3 p.m. A smoke alarm within the residence did not activate. No injuries were reported.

โ€œThe fire was determined to be accidental as a result of a power cord failure in the upstairs bedroom,โ€ a deputy fire marshalโ€™s report stated. โ€œThe occupant of the home was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.โ€

Damage to the two-story, wood-frame dwelling is estimated at $125,000. Thirty-two firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 30 minutes.
