Three Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) student artists were recently honored through the Maryland Masters Award program launched by Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot last year. The student artists selected from CCPS are David Boarman, senior, Henry E. Lackey High School; Eryn Gillam, kindergarten, William B. Wade Elementary School; and Marian Marteja, eighth grade, Milton M. Somers Middle School. Their art was selected to hang in Franchotโs Annapolis office as part of a program display.
Franchot visited the school system on Feb. 5 for a special ceremony to unveil the artwork and honor the students on their selection as program participants. The official program for 2015 is the Maryland Masters Award: Celebrating Marylandโs Achievements and Innovations through the Arts. Franchot launched the program to highlight the excellence in arts and to recognize public school students who display extraordinary skills and talent.
Boarmanโs artwork is a drawing of two clowns he recreated from a photograph he took at the Charles County Fair. Martejaโs artwork is a still life piece drawn with pencil that features shading techniques. Gillamโs art is a crayon drawing and features watercolor paint on top of the crayon to create texture.
Their artwork will hang in Franchotโs office for about two months and will then be returned to CCPS. As part of the program, an elementary, middle and high school student artist from each of Marylandโs 23 counties, as well as Baltimore City, will be recognized.
