Four students who were riding on a school bus applied their lifesaving skills and revived a stricken man in Calvert County, authorities have confirmed. The incident occurred Friday morning, March 7 in Sunderland in the Clagget Road โ€“ Dalrymple Road vicinity.

The youths spotted a man lying on the ground, asked the driver to stop, jumped off the bus and rendered lifesaving aid to the individual.

โ€œHe wasnโ€™t responding,โ€ said Tyler Latvala, a Huntingtown High School (HHS) student who is also a member of the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department (Company 6).

Latvala administered cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), while the other three students called 911 and canvassed the neighborhood to see if any of the residents knew the man.

Units from the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Company 6 and Calvert Advanced Life Support (CALS, Company 10) responded to the incident, which occurred around 7 a.m.

The other students involved in the rescue were Lawrence Moats, Nigeria Jones and Dion Jones.

The man, whose name has not been released, regained consciousness as he was been loaded into an ambulance for transport to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Latvala said before the man was transported, he shook his (Latvalaโ€™s) hand and told him he had been laying on the ground since 3 a.m.

The last report from police was that the man was โ€œdoing well.โ€
