The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took on the Sugar Land Skeeters for the final time in the 2013 Atlantic League regular seasonย Thursdayย night at Constellation Field. Looking to salvage the final game of the series, the Blue Crabs called upon left-handed pitcher, Mike OโConnor, making his second start as a member of the Crabs. ย The Skeeters countered with right-handed pitcher Clint Everts, who was coming off a win in his most recent start against the Camden Riversharks. The Crabs offense got on the board first but the Skeeters offense was too much for the Blue Crabs to handle as they went on to the 8-3 victory.
For the third consecutive night the Blue Crabs offense posted run support early on in the contest, as they were able to tally a run in the top of the first inning. Centerfield, Sean Smith, lead off the game with a double and after advancing on a groundout, Smith came around to score on right fielder, Brian Bartonโs sacrifice fly.
The Sugar Land Skeeters offense was on the attackย Thursdayย night as they struck for multiple runs in for separate innings. ย The Skeeters scored two in the first on two sacrifice flies and two more runs in the second on back-to-back RBI doubles. In total, the Skeeters offense tallied eight runs on 12 hits en route to an 8-3 victory.
