Cory J. Ryder

Leonardtown, MD— On July 25, Maryland State Police Trooper Manning responded to Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown for a reported disturbance.ย 

When Manning arrived contact was made with the victim, who advised her boyfriend, the defendant, had assaulted her. The defendant was identified as Cory J. Ryder, 26 of Valley Lee.ย 

The victim advised she was asleep in her room when Ryder, “came into her room and smacked her on her butt and started yelling at her for not answering her phone,” charging documentsย indicated.ย 

The victim statedย Ryder snatchedย her phone from her hand and when she attempted to get it back he threw a drink at her. The victim also advised while attempting to contact the police Ryder pushed her into the bedroom dresser and that’s when she (victim) pushed him back in an attempt to get away.ย 

The victimย advised that Ryder pushed her down the steps and continued to yell at her. The victimย attempted multiple time to get away from Ryder but he kept striking her in the head.ย 

Manning did observe bruisingย on the victim’s right arm, right elbow, chest area, right side of the face, and right knee. Manning determined Ryder to be the aggressor and he was placed under arrest. Ryder was transported to the St.Mary’s County Detentionย Center, where he was charged with second-degree assault.ย 

Ryder has a scheduled hearing set for Sept 20 in District Court. Ryder faces a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
