At 2:36 a.m. Feb. 12, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer E. Weaver attempted to stop a Nissan Quest on Strauss Avenue in Indian Head for a traffic violation but the driver refused to stop.
The driver fled to East Poplar Lane where he exited the vehicle.
Officer Weaver quickly apprehended the driver, George Melvin Gray, 54, of Indian Head and a subsequent search revealed Gray was in possession of 21 bags of crack cocaine and more than $3,000 in cash.
Gray was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding and failure to stop at a stop sign.
He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
