Lexington Park,MD— On Feb.13, the St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were conducting surveillance at the parking lot of the Lexington Lounge located at Great Mills Road when Sgt. Safford observedย numerous parked vehicles in the rear of the business with occupantsย in each.ย
The occupants were not getting out their vehicles. Safford observed the occupants urinating next to vehicles ย and saw smoke coming out of the windows. Officers were able to check the registration of one of the vehicles. The vehicle belonged to Dion J. Davis, 25, of Lexington Park.ย
Safford approached the vehicle on foot and observedย Davis in the driver’s seat with the engine running. According to charging documents,” Safford was able to identifyย Davis and ordered Davis to get out of the vehicle. Davis placed the car in drive and accelerated out of the parking lot at a dangerously high speed, almost striking a pedestrian.”ย
A short police chase ensued, and Davis turned towards Spring Valley apartments. The vehicleย failed to stop when officersย activated emergencyย lights and sirens, “instead accelerating at speeds of eighty-five mph in a 55 mph zone,” according to charging documents.ย
Officers lost the Davis vehicleย during the chase. However, they were able to locate the carย in front of the defendant’s known address. According to charging documents, “The car of the accused was unlocked and a cell phone was in the center console. The car’s engine was off, however, the fans in the engine were still running and, the hood was warm to the touch.”ย
Officers were able to make contact with the defendant’s mother at the second-floor apartment. The defendantย “was located standing in the corner of the bedroom near the sliding glass balcony door. I (Stone) gave loud verbal commands for Davis to get on the ground. Davis refused to comply and openedย the second-story sliding glass door and jumped off the second-floor balcony.”
Davis attempeted to flee, however he was placed under arrest after a short struggle. Davis was transported to St.Mary’s Hospital for precautionary purposes and eventually was transported to the St.Mary’s County Detention Center.ย
Davis wasย charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and failure to obey a lawful order after fleeing from officers, and also numerous traffic violations.ย
Davis has a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for March.17 at the St.Mary’s County District Court. Davis faces a maximum jail sentence of 38 years and two months and or a maximum fine of $15,500.ย
