Lexington Park, MD— On Juneย 24, a female came to the Maryland State Police Barrack located in Leonardtown to report a second-degree assault. She was directed to report the incident by the St.Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.ย
On June 24 the victim’s boyfriend, who was identified as Damien V. Wheeler, 31 of Lexington Park, came into their apartment located on Forest Crossing Lane in Lexington Park and began yelling at her (victim).ย
During the argument, Wheeler dragged her (victim) around the house by her legsย and threw her around the apartment. Wheeler told her their lease at the residence was being terminated July 3 as the result of his pending second-degree assault charge.
According to charging documents, “Wheeler continuedย dragging her by her legs and told her that he is going to kill her.”
ย While the victim was being dragged around the residence she attempted to dial 9-1-1. Wheeler took her phone from her and threw it against the wall and broke it.ย
In her written statement, she claimed that after the assault she insisted on leaving, and Wheeler told the victim, “I am an EMT you don’t need to go to the hospital,” according to charging documents.ย
The victimย sustained scratchesย on her right arm, and had bruises on her head and face. The victim also complained of pain in her abdominal area.ย
On June 25, the victim called the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and stated that her wallet was missing. She stated someone withdrew $700 in cash from a Bank Of America located in Lexington Park while she was at the Medstar St.Mary’s Hosptial in Leonardtown.ย
The victimย strongly believesย Wheeler is the one responsibleย as it was an ATM withdraw, “Wheeler is the only one who knows the victim’s pin number,” according to charging documents.ย
Wheeler has been charged with second-degree assault, false imprisonment, maliciousย destruction of property and theft less than $1,000 in value.ย
Wheeler has a court appearanceย scheduled for Aug. 30, in Districtย Court. Wheeler faces a maximumย jail sentence of 11 years and 4 months and/or a maximum fine of $3,500.ย
