LA PLATA, Md. — Earlier this morning, police were dispatched to reports of one person causing suspicious activity around multiple Charles County liquor stores.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 20, police arrived at one of the liquor stores that had reported suspicious activity and located the individual who the caller had identified. Upon arrival, the suspect was alerted and fled the scene in a vehicle that police had previously identified by its license plate as having been stolen from Montgomery County.
Police continued to chase the suspect until they crashed the vehicle into a guard rail in the area of Valley Road and Mitchell Road. The suspect proceeded to flee on foot following the crash.
Following the crash, the College of Southern Maryland La Plata Campus issued a shelter in place out of an abundance of caution due to the developing situation.
The suspect was apprehended a short time after the crash. The suspect is being treated for minor injuries that are presumed to have been sustained during the crash, and is expected to be charged for the incident.
This is a developing story. We will continue to provide additional details as they become available.
