The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office reports the fiery destruction of a 100 year-old barn in Calvert County is “suspicious” and the incident remains under investigation.
According to Dfm. Don Brenneman, the one-alarm fire on Briscoe Turn Road in Owings occurred March 5 and was reported at 7:25 p.m. Volunteer firefighters from Dunkirk, Prince Frederick, Huntingtown and North Beach were dispatched to the blaze and had the flames under control in 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Brenneman said the estimated loss is $40,000. The 25-foot-by-70-foot structure was totally destroyed by the fire.
