At 6:44 p.m. Sept. 27, Charles County Sheriffโs officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Hopkins Court in Waldorf for the report of a vehicle that struck a home.
Investigation revealed a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Richard James Gray, III, 22, of Waldorf was driving behind a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander sport-utility vehicle driven by Britney Nicole Thornton, 19, of Waldorf.
As the SUV was making a left turn from Wakefield Circle onto Hopkins Court, the Cavalier attempted to pass it on the left side.
The Cavalier struck the SUV, left the roadway, struck a pole, traveled up a yard and struck the house on Hopkins Court, coming to rest approximately 2ยฝ feet inside a bedroom in the residence.
The occupants of the residence were not home at the time and neither driver was injured. Gray was issued three citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, passing on a double-yellow line and unsafe lane changing. Officer J. Kelly investigated.
