On Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 9:12 pm TFC J. Linger was patrolling Loveville area when he observed a vehicle being operated with a non-working tag light.ย The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Edward Brian Harris, 36, Mechanicsville.ย
Mr. Harris wasnโt making appropriate responses to the questions asked; he was operating a third party vehicle and was in a known drug area. TFC Linger requested a K-9 unit respond to scan the vehicle.ย
Mr. Harris was asked to exit his vehicle so the Trooper could conduct a pat down for officer safety.ย Mr. Harris appeared to be attempting to hide something in his mouth. TFC Linger observed a piece of โcrackโ cocaine in Mr. Harrisโ mouth.ย When instructed to spit it out he swallowed it.ย
Deputy Fowler responded to the location and conducted a scan of Harrisโ vehicle utilizing his certified drug K-9.ย A positive alert was made on the vehicle.ย A probable cause search of Harrisโ vehicle was conducted.ย An aluminum can with burnt CDS residue was located in between the driver and passenger seat.ย Harris was transported to St. Maryโs County Hospital for treatment.ย
On Friday, October 7, 2005 Prince Georges County Police Department advised TFC Linger that the vehicle Harris was operating had been reported as stolen.ย Investigation and charges are pending.
Harris was arrested on October 7th for a seperate incident of theft outside Mattingly’s Food Store in Leonardtown.
