UPDATE 5:30 P.M. – On October 27 at approximately 1:05 p.m. members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) responded to Emmanuel Church Road in the area of Deer Run Court for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival units located a 2004 Honda Civic off the roadway in the wood line.

The vehicle was operated by Zachary Robert Smith,18 of Huntingtown. Smith was the only occupant in the vehicle. Smith was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Calvert Memorial Hospital. Due to the nature of his injuries Smith was subsequently transferred to Washington Hospital Center – MedStar.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Smith was traveling north bound on Emmanuel Church Road approaching Deer Run Court when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle entered a clockwise rotation and left the roadway. Upon leaving the roadway the vehicle struck a tree with the primary impact concentrated on the driver’s door. Smith sustained life threatening injuries during the collision. Smith remains in critical but stable condition at the time of this press release.  Speed appears to be a contributing factor to this collision.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, October 27, at approximately 1 p.m., the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and the Prince Frederick Rescue Squad responded to a single vehicle accident with a report that the driver was trapped.
 
Emergency workers took 22 minutes to effect the extraction before the patient could be transported to the hospital. Weather prevented rescue helicopters from flying so transport was done to Calvert Memorial Hospital. CMH had a medic team standing by on the ambulance’s arrival. 

Authorities in Calvert County are on the scene of a serious accident in Huntingtown along Emmanuel Church Road just prior to Stinnett Road.

Rescue crews responded to report of a single vehicle into a tree shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct . 27

Initial reports indicate the driver of the vehicle is trapped at this time.

Parts of Emmanuel Church will be shut down for reconstruction.
