Daquan Edward Holloway
Prince Frederick, MD – A Calvert County teenager was denied bond in District Court last week and is awaiting a March hearing in connection with an incident in which a 30-year-old man was shot. The defendantโidentified as Daquan Edward Holloway, 16 of Lusbyโhas been charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in commission of a felony/violent crime. Court records indicate he could receive a life sentence for the attempted first-degree murder charge. Holloway was arrested Jan. 18 at Patuxent High School (PHS). Court records indicate he is currently being represented by the Office of the Public Defender.
According to the statement of charges submitted by Detective Mike Mudd of the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office, deputies responded to Calvert Towne Road and Calvert Towne Drive Friday evening, Jan. 13 and found the victim with a single gunshot wound to his upper chest. The victim was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma. โLocated in the crime scene was an Apple IPhone that was active as Twitter feeds were seen posting and a single 40 caliber spent shell casing and U.S. currency,โ Mudd stated.
The victim was interviewed by police at the hospital and indicated the gunman had contacted him on his mobile device prior to the incident. A meeting was arranged for the sale of marijuana, with the suspect being the purchaser of three grams. The victim said he met the buyer at a location near Calvert Towne Road. The suspect โpunched him and took the marijuana without paying.โ The victim began chasing the suspect who subsequently โturned around and shot him in the chest with a handgun,โ Mudd stated.
Investigators recovered the suspectโs phone and conducted an analysis on the device in order to determine the identity of the suspect. Mudd stated that on Wednesday, Jan. 18 โmembers of the Criminal Investigations Bureau executed numerous search and seizure, and arrest warrants pertaining to a separate armed robbery. Four males were arrested for being involved in the armed robbery. One of whom was Isaiah Jones. โWhile speaking with Jones it was learned that โQuanโ was the male who committed the robbery and shooting,โ that occurred Jan. 13, Mudd stated. According to the statement of charges, a forensic analysis of Jonesโ phone revealed an exchange of messages between Jones and Holloway that indicated Holloway was setting up the marijuana dealer for a robbery. โThe phone number associated with Holloway and the messenger discussing the robbery is the same number as the phone left on the crime scene of the shooting by the suspect,โ Mudd stated.
While speaking with Mudd, Jones stated that he spoke with โQuanโ on the phone and Quan stated that he had shot the victim โbecause the robbery โgot out of hand,โ โ Mudd stated.
The same day Holloway was arrested at PHS, a sheriffโs office detective went to the suspectโs residence to set up surveillance, Mudd stated in court documents. โWhile at the residence [the detective] observed a female leave the residence with a brown bag that she tossed in the back seat,โ he stated. The woman, Hollowayโs mother admitted there was a gun in the back seat of the vehicle. Police then secured the vehicle pending a search warrant. The weapon in the vehicle turned out to be a BB gun. A search warrant executed at Hollowayโs home yielded several handgun magazines for a 40 caliber handgun, 40 caliber ammunition and gun boxes, Mudd stated.
A hearing on the charges Holloway is facing is tentatively scheduled for March 2 in District Court.
Jones, 18 of Lusby, was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, home invasion, false imprisonment and firearm use in commission of a violent crime in connection with an incident that occurred Jan. 12, one day before the shooting.
On Saturday, Feb. 4 Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans, along with several officers and community leaders, met with residents of the Calvert Towne subdivision about the latest incidents. Evans called the meeting โvery successful,โ adding โapproximately 40 attended to have their questions answered.โ
