St. Maryโ€™s County law enforcement responded to Great Mills Court apartments at 7:32 p.mย Wednesday evening (October 5th)ย  for the report of a man shot.

The nineteenย year old victim, identified as Antonio Wendell Chase, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital from the scene. Chase sufferedย a gunshot wound to his right forearm.

Last nightย St. Maryโ€™s Sheriffโ€™s Office deputies and Maryland State Police taped off the area. Numerous people were in the area at the time of the shooting and there were many witnesses.ย  Within an hour police had a possible suspect in custody, but continued to interview the mass of witnesses at the scattered crime scene, which stretched out of Great Mills Court and on to Joe Baker Court. Police continued to investigate the scene, interview witnesses, and police dogs were brought in to locate any additional witnesses andย to uncover theย shell casing from the bullet that struck the man.

The man who was shot reportedly told police he did not hear or see the shooter, and was hit without warning.

Today St. Mary’s County Bureau of Investigationsย announced that they hadย locatedย a suspect, nineteenย year old Gregory Troy Taylor. Based on physical evidence, witness accounts and other evidence recovered, Taylor was arrested and charged.

The shooting is said to have stemmed from an earlier incident between Chase and Taylor.

Suspect Taylor has been charged withย one count of 1st Degree Assault;ย one count of 2nd Degree Assault; andย one count of Use of a Handgun in Commission of a Felony.

Taylor is currently being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending his appearance before the District Court Judge. Additional charges are pending a review with the Stateโ€™s Attorney and presentation to the St. Maryโ€™s County Grand Jury .
