1. Populate News section of The Bay Net
Press Releases & Other E-mail
Read and reword press releases and other correspondences from county government, local police and fire departments.
Original Spotlight Stories
Write original stories to be used as spotlights (can be based on an event, activity, etc. that the news associate attended, should include video or a photo slideshow or both). Should be a longer piece, and might involve one or more follow-up talks with the subject of the piece.
Breaking News
Monitor the police scanner, and upon hearing about something of interest, find out where and go to scene to get further information, pictures, video, etc.
Reader’s Letters, Columns, Reader Submitted Stories
The Bay Net currently provides the ability to automatically create Live Update News stories from Reader submitted Letters, Columns and Reader Submitted Stories, so these can be used to populate the News section of the site as well.
It is the responsibility of the news associate in charge of the site to make sure that there are ALWAYS 5 Live Updates and 5 Top Headlines showing on the home page of The Bay Net. They are also responsible for making sure there is a new Spotlight story EVERY day. If a story is of particular interest, it can run for 2 days, but should never run longer than 2 days in the Spotlight spot.
