It’s grand opening weekend here in Solomons highlighted by the opening of the Tiki Bar. People are pouring into the tiny Solomons Island hamlet by the hundreds, gathering for the official opening ceremony at 4 p.m. which officially declares, “It’s party time!”
By mid day, the area surrounding the Tiki Bar was beginning to gather more and more people; those having a good time, those shaking off the stiffness and boredom of winter, and even more soaking up the beautiful warm sunshine.
Some come every year, and others come because of the notoriety and myth that surrounds the Solomons mainstay. For whatever reason, people flock to the Tiki Bar and Solomons just to be part of the experience, an experience that has become a tradition, not just on Solomons, but around the world.
