La Plata, MD—On Oct.18, zombies will be invading for a day at Laurel Springs Regional Park located in La Plata.
This Zombie Invasion 5K fundraiser, to benefit Special Olympics Maryland, will be hosted by Charles County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 24 [FOP] and Charles County Correctional Officers Association [CCCOA].
“This is the third year we have put on this 5K, we are looking for people to come out and have a great time,” said Sgt. Gus Proctor, who works for Charles County Sheriff’s Office and as event coordinator for the Zombie 5K.
People are invited to run or walk the 3.1-mile trail. People who wish to participate can sign up early, this event should not be confused with a zombie chase.
“Special Olympics Maryland is the 5th largest special Olympics organization in the nation, raising more than $2.66 million dollars in 2014,” said Proctor.
Everyone is welcomed to this event, slow and fast runners. Strollers are also welcomed, race check in starts at 8 and 10 a.m.
