The two-hour early dismissal day scheduled for March 4 will now be a full day of school for students to make up some of the time lost last week with late arrivals. Feb. 24, remains as a two-hour early dismissal day.
The last day for teachers will be June 18, changed from June 17. This is to make up for the day teachers missed on Feb. 5, which was to be an in-service day. Two hours of June 18 will be used for teacher planning.
Today, the state superintendent is asking the Maryland Board of Education for authority to grant possible waivers to counties. Superintendent James Richmond is not making the determination to ask for waiver days until he receives information from the state about any conditions or requirements for waivers. If we request a waiver, that decision will be finalized and announced on March 9 at the Charles County Board of Education meeting. Any waiver the superintendent requests would eliminate days we need to use from Spring Break. The last day of school for students remains at June 16.
