Authorities in St. Mary’s County are investigating a house fire which claimed the life of three cats.
Fire and Rescue crews responded to report of a house fire in the 18400 block of Three Notch Road in St. James shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
Crews arrived on the scene to discover a single family home ablaze. Heavy smoke was showing upon arrival as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire, but three cats did perish as a result of the blaze. One female was transported from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
