The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries service announced Thursday that 12-year old Kenny Harvey of Oakland is one of the l5 lucky anglers who caught tagged fish during the second week of the 2nd Annual Maryland $1,000,000 Fishing Challenge: The Return of Diamond Jim.
This weekโs catches now qualifies a total of 24 anglers to win a chance at $1 million cash, a 20-foot center console Sailfish 206CC motorboat and trailer, an 18-foot 7-inch Tracker Nitro 591 motorboat and trailer, and two 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 pick-up trucks.
Kenny was fishing with his grandfather when he caught a Rainbow Trout in the Youghiogheny River on June 9. His mother said he skipped basketball camp this year to learn how to fish. Kennyโs decision has paid off as he now qualifies to win $1,000,000.
โI didnโt know what the tag on the fish was for but we were excited after we read the tag and called the phone number,โ Kenny said.
When asked what heโd do with $1,000,000, the soon to be 7th grader from Southern Middle School said, โIโd probably, being that Iโm 12 years old, spend a little but have to save some for my future.โ
