As for Sunday’s blow-out concert, according to Vanessa Gill, Director of Development at Calvert Marine Museum, the show promises to be one of the best they haveย put on yet.ย

Extra staging has been brought in, and a pyro show is set to take place at the event. The concert is also honoring the Wallace family who has recently lost Cpl. Matthew Wallace to the war in Iraq. The Wallaces have been invited to attend.

Bigย & Rich, more than just glitz and fame, are Nashville stars with a true display of patriotism and respect for our military heroes.ย  National recording artists, Bigย & Rich, met Vietnam veteran Niles Harris in 2002, and were so inspired by his story, that they instantly bonded.ย

Harrisโ€™s story touched John Rich and Big Kenny, and the song-writingย duo composed a song of compassion for the heroes in the 173 Airborne Brigade who were ambushed in Vietnam.ย 48 lives were lost that day. Big and Richโ€™s song, The 8th of November, is the story of a man caught in the action of kill or be killed.ย  โ€œNo greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his country.โ€

โ€œWe are excited to be able to bring Big & Rich to southern Maryland,โ€ says Gill.ย  โ€œWhen they found out our proximity to Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Big Kenny and John Rich inquired about involving the military in their performance.ย  With the recent success of their Vietnam tribute song, ‘8th of November,’ we agreed that a special tribute to our local military personnel would be wonderful.โ€ย

As choreographed during the ACM awards, Big & Rich will perform “8th of November” and will be joined on stage by local Vietnam War veterans.ย  โ€œWe have been working on military tributes for this show since we booked Big & Rich in June,โ€ says Gill, โ€œand weโ€™re pleased to have a performer that shares in our appreciation for the military service provided by our troops.โ€

The museum is also donating 30 tickets to wives who have spouses that have been shipped out on active duty. โ€œSometimes the spouse of an active duty sailor is forgotten about, hopefully this will give them a small break from the stress of being alone, and a night out to see how much their family is appreciated in our communityโ€ said Gill. Charlotte Hall Veteransโ€™ Home will also be a special guest of the museumโ€™s. They will be bringing 17 veterans of different wars to the event, and will have special seating
