Solomons, MD โ Much needed money is coming to one of Calvert Countyโs oldest responder units, thanks to the efforts of a local landmark. On Aug. 23 Solomons Islandโs world-famous Tiki Bar hosted a luau to raise funds for the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3).
On Friday, Sept. 12, officials from the Tiki Bar presented a check in the amount of $3,215 to members of Company 3. Accepting the check were former Company 3 president and Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemenโs Association Hall of Fame member Raymond Lankford, Company 3 Chief Engineer Chris Franklin, along with members Aubre Hinson, Brenda Agambar and Raymond McIntire.
The Tiki Bar was represented by owner Terry Clarke, along with Scott Spaulding, Bill Martin, Jordan Maynard and the Grill Sergeant Mike Theesen. Also attending the check presentation was Glenn Horsmon of Bob Hall Budweiser.
โMembers proudly attended the festivities [Aug. 23 luau] in our new Class B uniforms to give our thanks to the community who so graciously donated to our cause,โ stated Communications Officer Norman Rae on the Company 3 web site.
Like all of Calvertโs responding companies, Company 3 personnel donate their time and effort in service to the county. The funds raised through events like the Tiki Bar luau aid the company in purchasing gear, supplies, equipment and maintenance. Keeping major components like road vehiclesโtrucks and ambulancesโand the companyโs boat in working order also requires funds from the public. In addition to taxpayer dollars budgeted by the Calvert County Commissioners, the members raise funds through special events, bingo and other efforts.
