Prince Frederick, March 3 – A Calvert man is severely beaten during an alleged drug deal. He dies the following day. The man and woman charged with his death were later given suspended life sentences.

Barstow, Sept. 5 – A head-on collision on Route 231 claimed the life of a Chesapeake Beach man and seriously injured two others. In a follow-up by The BayNet, it was learned that alcohol-related charges against the other driver were subsequently dropped by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Lusby, May, 2 – A White Sands man was found shot to death inside his home. One day later, a suspect in the shooting took his own life in St. Mary’s County.

Huntingtown, Aug. 21 – A local doctor faces federal drug charges. The Huntingtown resident admits writing drug prescriptions in the names of three patients and keeping the drugs for his own use. He is fined, placed on probation and surrenders his license.

Solomons, July 4 – Independence Day weekend brought a challenge to local responders when a flash fire aboard a boat injured several people, including some children. A total of 13 people—all with nonlife-threatening injuries—were transported to area hospitals.

North Beach, Aug. 26 – A citizen reported a coyote running loose in North Beach. Animal Control officers managed to capture the coyote, which they “humanely euthanized” due to the fear of possible rabies. The animal, which was kept as a pet by a local resident, tested negative for rabies.

Lusby, Aug. 1 – A third drowning in eight days occurred off Cove Point when a man was caught in the swift current. He was subsequently pulled out and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Authorities then met with the community and posted warning signs for swimmers.

Huntingtown, July 12 – A man riding a farm tractor dies when he flips the vehicle over backwards, trapping himself underneath it. Investigators reported the local man was trying to pull up a tree stump when the accident occurred.
