Chesapeake Beach, MD ย – Thereโs a glowing sight on the Chesapeake Bay that will be around for the next several weeks. The bayside town of Chesapeake Beach is officially lit up for the Christmas season.
The municipality held its traditional โLight Up the Town Ceremonyโ Sunday evening, Nov. 29 at the Chesapeake Beach Town Hall. Under the direction of instructor Marilyn Beeson, the Beach Elementary School Band, consisting of fifth-graders playing string, brass and woodwinds, played several seasonal standards. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived, and Mayor Bruce Wahl thanked town staff, including the Public Works crew, for making the town brighter.
Standing on the front steps of town hall, Wahl led the countdown, Mrs. Claus waved her magic wand, and the lights went on. Afterwards, the Twin Beach Players Youth Troupe sang Christmas carols, accompanied by 14-year-old keyboard player Wyatt Garrett.
In addition to the town hall, the Chesapeake Beach Water Park, town lamp posts and other municipal locations are aglow in Christmas lights. Chesapeake Beach is again conducting its โBrightest Beacon on the Bayโ competition. Judges will determine the brightest homes, townhouses, businesses and boats. This is the 28th year the town has held the contest. Winners will be announced at the December town meeting.
