Captain Jim Thrift
Captain Jim Thrift claims his prize for having the best decorated boat in the Chesapeake Beach 2016 Brightest Beacon on the Bay contest.

Chesapeake Beach, MD – As is the custom, the final town meeting on the year in Chesapeake Beach means handing out an array of prizes to citizens and business people who have participated in a longtime Christmas tradition. On Thursday evening, Dec. 15 town officials announced the 2016 Brightest Beacon on the Bay winners.

A panel of judges determines which businesses, boats, houses and townhomes registered by owners will earn the awards for bright decorations. Connie Oโ€™Dell, who handles special events for the town, announced the winners. The townโ€™s departing first coupleโ€”Mayor Bruce Wahl and his wife Beckyโ€”handed out the prizes as the winners were announced.

An award went to Captain Jim Thrift for his brightly decorated vessel Thrifty it Ainโ€™t.

The winners for best decorated businesses were: first place, the Chesapeake Beach Town Hall (the award was presented to two independent contractors who had installed the lights); second place, Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa; third place, Traderโ€™s Seafood, Steak and Ale; and honorable mention, Beverlyโ€™s Gifts and Flowers.

Oโ€™Dell provided the addresses of the winning houses and townhomes, explaining to TheBayNet.com the town as a policy does not publish the names of the homeowners. For best decorated houses the winners were: first place, 7007 Silver Charm Lane; second place, 7488 Cavalcade Drive; and third place, 3377 Cannoncade Court.

The best decorated townhomes were: first-place 2433 Green Leaf Terrance and 8224 Silverton Court.

The best in show or โ€œBrightest Beacon on the Bayโ€ recipient was 3812 19th Street.
