Richard Rose, left, began serving as town administrator for Chesapeake Beach in October.

Chesapeake Beach, MD – An administrator with the Town of Chesapeake Beach is facing perjury charges in Mississippi, various news sources have reported.

Richard Rose began his tenure as Chesapeake Beachโ€™s town administrator Oct. 20. Rose was hired after an extensive national search.

A Mississippi television station, WLOX, reported Rose turned himself in to Harrison County MS authorities April 1. A county sheriffโ€™s spokesman told the TV station Rose, who had served as Diamondhead City manager prior to moving to Chesapeake Beach, was indicted in March on perjury charges. The indictment, which came following an investigation by the Mississippi State Attorney Generalโ€™s Office, is connected to Roseโ€™s role as city manager.

According to the Sun-Herald newspaper, Rose was fired from his job with Diamondhead City last June and subsequently filed a complaint with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

Rose was subsequently released on $5,000 bond.

On Monday, April 6 Chesapeake Beach Mayor Bruce Wahl told The Bay Net that Rose was back in town and on the job. The mayor affirmed that Rose would likely remain as county administrator โ€œunless something changes in Mississippi.โ€

โ€œRichard is an outstanding manager,โ€ said Chesapeake Beach Town Council Vice President Patrick โ€œIrishโ€ Mahoney. โ€œHeโ€™s innocent until proven guilty.โ€
