Nathan Allen Anspach
St. Leonard, MD – On April 19, Deputy Trigg of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle going at speeds as high as 57 miles per hour in a posted 30 mph zone on Calvert Beach Road in the area of Apple Way. Trigg began to follow the vehicle. Once the vehicle reached the area of Calvert Beach Road with a shoulder, he activated his siren and lights and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with the driver, later identified as Nathan Allen Anspach, 21 of St. Leonard, Trigg detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. While talking with Anspach, Trigg observed a zip lock bag in the passenger seat with a corner ripped out. Trigg asked Anspach who the car belonged to, and was told, โitโs a rental. My car was in an accident last week.โTrigg asked Anspach if he could search the vehicle, and Anspach complied, telling the officer, โThere is some heroin in there.โ
Inside the vehicle, Trigg found a bag with three grams of a brown powder inside located on the floor underneath the driver’s seat. This was the heroin that Anspach had refered to. A copper Brillo pad was also discovered in the car, and while the search was going on, Anspachโs cell phone, which was sitting on the center console, went off with a text message saying โWe should smoke.โ
Trigg administered a field sobriety test on Anspach, who advised Trigg that he smoked marijuana and snorted heroin earlier in the day.
Anspach also advised Trigg that there was marijuana at his house that the officers could go get. At his residence, there was a bag with 3 grams of marijuana inside that was taken out of the house. Anspach was arrested and charged with CDS: possession not marijuana and CDS: possession paraphernalia. Anspach has a District Court hearing tentatively scheduled for Aug. 24.
