Annapolis, MD โ Jan. 10, 2017– The jury trial of a Calvert County woman deemed the at-fault driver in a motor vehicle crash that killed a St. Maryโs County couple last Valentineโs Day has been indefinitely delayed, according to documents on file in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. Lauren Renee Scott, 28 of North Beach faces 13 counts in connection with the crash on Solomons Island Road (Route 2) in Edgewater that claimed the lives of Daniel and Kayla Amos, both 21 of California.
The delay was granted by the court Tuesday, Jan. 10. This is the second time the trial has been pushed back. Scottโs attorney, Eugene M. Whissel II, declined to discuss the reason for the request. He did confirm that his client is no longer behind bars but confined to her residence.
According to court records, a conference on the status of the case, which is being prosecuted by Anne Arundel County Assistant Stateโs Attorney Michael W. McGraw, will be held in March.
Last Feb. 14, Scott was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on Route 2 near Swallow Lane when the vehicle crossed the centerline, striking the Amosโ southbound Honda Civic. An investigation conducted by the Anne Arundel County Police Departmentโs Traffic Safety Division, with close coordination from the Stateโs Attorneyโs Office, determined Scottโs failure to remain right of the centerline was the primary cause of the crash.
According to a police report, investigators โalso found probable cause that Scott was driving under the influence of drugsโmarijuana and opiatesโand/or controlled dangerous substance (CDS), which directly contributed to the crash and the subsequent deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Amos.

Scott was arrested last June. She is charged with two counts each of negligent manslaughter by automobile, homicide by motor vehicle – drugs, homicide with a motor vehicle – CDS, and criminally negligent manslaughter with a vehicle; and one count each of driving, attempting to drive a vehicle while so far impaired by drugs; driving, attempting to drive a vehicle while impaired by CDS; failure to drive right of center, reckless driving and negligent driving.
