At 11:54 p.m. Aug. 31, Trooper Ford was on routine patrol traveling north On Route 925 at Route 5, when he observed a black Toyota Corolla crossing the double yellow lines by swerving from the northbound lane into the southbound lanes 3 times.
Trooper Ford initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.ย While conversing with the operator, he stated he understood very little English and was unable to display any identification at the time.
Trooper Ford got his quick Spanish guide book and was able to get the driverโs name, which the driver wrote down on a notebook provided.
While attempting to receive information about the defendantsโ identity, the trooper detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the defendantโs breath.ย The defendantโs eyes were red and glassy as well.
A Spanish speaking interpreter from the Charles County Sheriffโs Office arrived on the scene to assist with performing the standard field sobriety tests.ย The defendant was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack.
After the third time of asking the defendant his name and personal information, the defendant advised his name was Jose Maria-Antonio, 29 of Waldorf.
The defendant was then transported to the Charles County Detention Center for further processing and was also charged with โdid upon arrest, knowingly and with the intent to deceive, make a false statement to a peace officer concerning his identity.โ
At 7:09 p.m. Sept. 1, TFC S. Murphy was traveling northbound on Route 5, north of Poplar Hill Road when he observed a white Honda Civic front windshield was severely cracked.ย TFC Murphy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The driver identified himself as Jose Perez Lopez, a check through MVA/MILES/NCIC reveled that Lopez did not have a driving privilege in Maryland or any other state.ย While speaking with Lopez, TFC Murphy smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.ย TFC Murphy had Lopez perform the standard field sobriety field tests.
Lopez was placed under arrest for DUI, and transported to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack for processing.ย While at the La Plata Barrack, Officer Alvarez of the Charles County Sheriffโs Office asked Lopez his real name and Lopez informed him that his full name of Jose Peres Alonzo.
While at the Charles County Detention Center, Alonzoโs fingerprints revealed that his real name was Jose Alonso Galicia, 24 of Hyattsville.
A check through MILES/NCIC revealed that Galicia had a confirmed open warrant through the Anne Arundel County Police Department for violation of probation.ย Galicia was also charged with โdid upon arrest, knowingly and with the intent to deceive, make a false statement to a peace officer concerning his identity/date of birth.โ
