Some 400 runners and walkers decided a pre-Thanksgiving supper saunter would be a wise way to start a day famous for food. The participants in the Second annual โStrut Your Stuffingโ Turkey Trot to benefit Project Echo gathered at The Arc of Southern Marylandโs Community Resource Center in Prince Frederick Thursday, Nov. 28 just before dawn.
According to race officials, well over half of this yearโs participants were first-time trotters. At 7 a.m. the signal was given and like a flock of turkeys desperately trying to dodge the oven and the holiday dinner table, the racers were off and moving. They braved patches of ice, traversing just over three miles of Prince Frederick Boulevard. Some racers sported turkey hats, and one dasher was dressed in a turkey costume. Others raced as they were.
And who was fastest โfore the feast? According to Project Echo Executive Director Trish Gipson it was Ryan Murphy of Richmond, VA, one of several out-of-staters to participate in this yearโs event.
Runners from Texas and Florida were also part of the field.
Gipson said the results of the race would be posted early next week on the eventโs web site.
