Eight people were violently killed, and as many as eight more injured as reported by witnesses and those who came forward after the event. Two cars were racing on Indian Head Highway in Accokeek, just after 3:30 a.m. the morning of Feb. 16, 2008, when one of the cars took an abrupt turn into a crowd of at least 50 people watching the race.
Darren Bullock, 21 of Waldorf, was driving the white Crown Victoria that sped into the crowd standing in the road. Bullockโs identity has been known throughout the investigation but, through his lawyer, denied wrongdoing, blaming the people for illegally standing in a highway according to reports by ABC 7 News. Until now, the identity of the second racer had not been made public.
Tavon Taylor, 18 of Waldorf, turned himself in to Prince Georgeโs County police after a surveillance video from a nearby factory caught Bullock allegedly driving his Crown Victoria at 110 mph with his headlights off moments before hitting the crowd, with Taylorโs vehicle, a green Mercury Marquis, close behind.
Prince Georgeโs County grand jury handed down two, 10-count indictments. Taylor and Bullock each received eight counts of vehicular manslaughter, one for each victim, and are charged with drag racing and reckless driving.
Bullock is expected to turn himself in the company of a lawyer soon.
