California, MD –ย On February 12, 2015, Deputy Schultz responded to the Super 8 Motel located on Three Notch Road in California, for a reported theft.
The alleged victims, Jamie Tyshai Phaneuf, age 21, of Curtis Bay, Maryland and Trinik Shatega Barnett, age 20, of California, reported a blue Hewlett Packard brand laptop, (owned by Barnett), and 2 bottles of lotion were stolen from their motel room while they were gone for the day.
While Deputy Schultz conducted his investigation inside the motel, Deputy S. Cameron located Trinik Barnettโs vehicle in the parking lot. Deputy Cameron was able to see what appeared to be the corner of a blue laptop inside a shopping bag in the back seat of the vehicle. Upon further inspection of the laptop in the vehicle, Deputy Schultz determined it was a blue Hewlett Packard brand laptop; identical to the one Barnett was reporting stolen.
Deputy Schultz confronted Barnett with the discovery, who had earlier denied owning any other laptops. Barnett then indicated she owned two blue Hewlett Packard laptops and the one in the vehicle was hers also. Phaneuf then told Deputy Schultz the laptop in the vehicle belonged to her boyfriend.
Barnett and Phaneuf were placed under arrest and transported to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center. Both were charged with False Statement to Police Officer.
