LEONARDTOWN, Md. — We are receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision this afternoon that is sending two patients to a nearby trauma center.

At approximately 3:13 p.m. on October 24, first responders were called to the 42000 block of Medleys Neck Road, in the area of Whirlwind Road for reports of an accident involving a motorcycle. Reports initially indicated that there were at least two patients who were injured, one of which was a female with an obviously fractured leg.

Upon arrival, crews made contact with both of the motorcycle riders, as well as the operator of the other involved vehicle which was described as a van.

A determination would be made soon after that the two patients on the motorcycle would be in need of further medical attention, and would need to be transported to a nearby trauma center by helicopter.

A helicopter from the Maryland State Police Aviation, which had been placed on standby when the accident was initially dispatched, was called to the scene moments after EMS arrived on the scene to transport both patients.

The landing zone was set at Old Salt Mill Lane, not far from the accident scene on Medleys Neck Road.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as they come available.
