At approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday afternoon a white male driving a Ford F-150 pickup was in the center laneย of theย north bound Rt. 235, in the area ofย Super 8 Motel,ย when he cut sharply across the left lane and cut off a few cars, then jumped over the grass divider.
The pickupย knocked out a sign in the median, then crossed all the south bound lanes against traffic and came to rest after just missing the sign inย the parking lot of Century 21.
Fire departments and other emergency respondersย were alerted to the crash and responded to the scene. Bay District Volunteer Fire Department reports that a Lieutenant made contact with the driver, who then became combative.ย ย
The driver got out of the truck and started running down 235 south yelling for help, as a firefighter chased after him. The man, who was injured from the crash, fell over on Rt. 235 andย rescue workers were able to assist him.ย Fire department personnel and EMS worked to treat the man and stabalize him, although he continued to fight them at times.
Trooper 7 airlifted the injured driver from this first accident at 4:34 pm, taking him to PG Shock Trauma.
At approximately 3:50 p.m. the south bound lane of Rt. 235 was was shut down due to the crash, and at 4:15 p.m. the north bound section of the road was also closed. Meanwhile, shortly after 4 p.m.ย a second crash called more volunteers from the area to Rt. 5 south of Great Mills Road.
According to Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, which was among the responders, the squads arrived on the scene and had to remove the passenger door to extricateย an occupant. An elderly man and a woman were flown out to a trauma center, listed as Priority 2. Eagleย One transported the injured couple at 5:15 p.m., as Maryland State Police helos were involved in other responses.ย ย
